Oil pastels are used for drawing. They allow you to obtain thick strokes with saturated colours. The ease with which they spread on paper depends on the ambient temperature. At higher temperatures, pastels are softer. A drawing made with pastels can be modified by engraving (scratching) and blurring with turpentine or hot air.
